Italy is famous world wide for its cuisine and one of the best ways to discover Biella is through it's wine and culinary delights.The diversity of its delicious gastronomic specialities will satisfy even the most demanding palate. Our theme weeks and excursions will enable you to enjoy some of the following: A real "Aperitivo" (Appetiser) is a selection of local snacks, cheeses and cold cuts of meat accompanied by a glass of "Prosecco" (Naturally sparkling white wine). This is normally served early in the evening before the main meal. Every valley produces it's own special cheese, the queen of which is "Toma" and the real king, "Maccagno" : See Special Events. It is made from flour that is ground from local corn and you will be introduced to some of its various forms on many of our excursions. All of which use local organic produce and according to the season will include fresh truffles, porcini mushrooms or salami. Among these are the "Canestrelli", "Torcetti" and "Paste d'Amelia" biscuits and the "Bunet" a chocolate, amaretto and almond pudding. All of these will be favourites for those with a sweet tooth ! Biella is well known for it's great wines like Lessona, Orbello, Bramaterra and Erbaluce, as well as the more famous regional wines like Barbera, Barolo and Dolcetto. There will be plenty of opportunities for tasting these during your excursions, some of which include a visit to one of the local vineyards. Beer lovers will appreciate this local lager, voted one of the best in the world... Try it at the Brewery... also in Biella!! | |
