This nature reserve is set on the remains of an old Roman gold mining settlement.

At the time of the Roman Empire over 5000 miners transformed this area into one of the largest open-cast gold mines in the world. You will have a guided walk through this park seeing the traces of the Victimuli, (the ancient population who lived and worked here between the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C.), and their gold mine, as well as enjoying the present inhabitants, butterflies, birds, hares and a significant number of tawny and barn owls.

A tour of the visitors centre and Gold Museum is also included. After lunch you will have the chance of trying out traditional gold panning techniques.

Any gold that you find you can keep as a souvenir of the day! Lunch is either a BBQ in the park or at a nearby “Trattoria”.
